Amber Heather smiled down at the District 5'ers happily. "Happy Hunger Games!" she trilled, and although it had been silent before, it was even more so now. Back in the older Reapings, before they'd begun anew, children were afraid. Now they all looked bored and unsatisfied.

The children--or rather, the people from ages 12 until 19, all stood in neat lines, with a large velvet rope keeping the boys and girls seperated with a walkway between the two. Each looked at Amber Heather, some with confidence, others with fear, and most with absolute and complete boredom.

"And may the odds....be ever in your favor." she cooed with a smile. "Ladies first!" she then declared, reaching the bowl and yanking out a name that stuck out in the center. She went back to the microphone then, opened the slip, and crowed, "Valentina Kaster!"

The girl stepped forward, moving towards the aisle in between the separated genders. As she reached the stage, she waved to a few friends of hers excitedly. "Any volunteers?" Amber cooed, but was met with silence.

She went to the boys' bowl, choosing the first slip of paper she saw. "Clark Sanderson." she said.

Clark stood silently in the crowd, looking at all the terrified faces. Cowards. He chuckled lightly. The girl who walked onto the stage was one Clark did recognize. It was a pity he'd have to kill her. Then came the volunteer call, no one. Not one person opened their mouth.

Clark shook his head, maybe it was his mind-frame but he thought volunteering for someone else was noble, brave, heroic. Then, as silence fell again. The boys got their turn, and Clark could already hear it, hear the gasps, the sad sighs, and the one thing he wanted the very most, "Clark Sanderson."

Clark paused, had she just called his name? His eyes lit up, and bland smile touched the corners of his mouth, then it was gone again. he strode confidently onto the stage, shoving fellow students and others out of his way. He took his place alongside Valentina, looking her up and down as he did.

On the inside he was giddy, on the outside, he could have been described by one word: Whatever.
